Quotable Quotes

"Tis our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world.."
 - George Washington (1796)

"Commerce with all nations, alliance with none, should be our motto."
 - Thomas Jefferson (1799)

"The ongoing migration of persons to the United States in violation of our laws is a serious national problem detrimental to the interests of the United States." - Ronald Reagan, 1981

"Honor never grows old, and honor rejoices the heart of age. It does so because honor is, finally, about defending those noble and worthy things that deserve defending, even if it comes at a high cost. In our time, that may mean social disapproval, public scorn, hardship, persecution, or as always, even death itself. The question remains: What is worth defending? What is worth dying for? What is worth living for?" - William J. Bennett in a lecture to the U. S. Naval Academy, Nov 24, 1997

INTROThank you for visiting my Voting Schedule page. I hope that you find the information and links useful.

Full Disclosure:  I am a Christian, I am Conservative, etc...  This is my blog website. I am NOT trying to portray my blog as a newspaper as others bloggers do.  To be clear, REAL news paper outlets in the area are: The Leader (a subsidiary of, The Dallas Morning News with their community sections, The Denton Record Chronicle, and a smaller paper called the Crosstimbers Gazette.  I admit that blog sites like mine, The Gorena Journal, may offer some great information but please know that they are just blogs.   In my web site, I am doing all I can to educate and convince people who share my core values to vote for the conservative candidates.  I do try to not talk bad about the liberal websites and their comments but I am also hoping that people are smart enough to know the difference between a blog, a real newspaper, or a "want-to-be" newspaper site that is really a blog, etc....  If you want to get my weekly updates (which they can be daily updates during the voting days), then please COMPLETELY fill out the Get Notified form. - John Gorena

About voting.... Most people running for elected office are nice - especially out in public and during election time.  Do not be swayed by the smile or just their few words.  What are they really like?   I vote for the person who I think best represents me - those with my same Core Values.  I encourage you to vote your values because our American Way of Life depends on it.  I will go as far to say that your life depends on it.  I ask that you vote your values - vote for those who are conservative (or sadly more conservative than the other).  Don't vote for a person just because you met them, the person was nice to you, or you heard the name.  I think most of the people in office are nice.  Vote for the person that best represents you - who would make decisions most like you.  Keep in mind that these are your representatives you are electing to make decisions for you.  If you vote for a person that would not vote the way you would want, then you are voting against yourself and that is kind of stupid isn't it??????  It's kind of like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders.  Also, as attributed to John Wayne who once said, "Life's hard, it's even harder when you're stupid."

Gorena's Simple Rules about voting:

  • Be sure that you are registered to vote!  If you live in Denton County Texas, Start at the Denton County Voter Registration page.  If you are in another County, please be sure to contact your County Voter Registration department.
  • Vote your values.  Try to get to know all the candidates and vote your values.  What are your important issues and what do these candidates say about those issues?  Who do they side with?  Party platforms say a lot.
  • Always vote in every election and Runoff.  There are at least two elections per year (May and November) and can be as many as five or so (including Primaries, Runoffs, and other special elections).
  •  For Elections that have Republican vs Democrat, Never leave a race blank.  Pick one - Always!  Think about it..  Not voting for one of them is like voting for the other.  Not voting is a vote.  {I know some liberal will have fun with this one.}  That is, voting takes away a vote from the other side.  Therefore, if you do not know either, vote for the Republican based on their party platform.  NOW, There always seems to be an exception to the rule...  On City/School elections, they are not party elections, if you do not know either, leave it blank.  Just vote for the person you know or whom your trusted like minded friends suggest.  It is always best to learn about the candidates but sometimes it is best not to make things worse.
  • BONDS:  Understand what they are...  They are debt, borrowed money...  Basically, the politicians have used all the money they get from taxes, fees, fines, etc...  But they need more money so they put Bonds on the ballot...  If you like paying more taxes, or you want them to incur more taxpayer debt, then Bonds are for you.  If you think you already pay too much taxes and you want them to not incur debt and pay as they can from a budget, then vote AGAINST Bonds.  Even if you think the Bonds for a specific project is worth incurring more debt, think about how much is being asked.  Is it really worth that much money for a building addition?  Do we as a community need to go into that business of whatever they are going to build?   Even with the fees they charge to use the facility that is built with bonds, it will most likely never be self funded - expect the taxpayers to subsidize the activity.  I vote AGAINST Bonds because politicians need to stop the needless spending! On the ballot, these are written in a way to get them passed.  Remember, they want more money because they have spent everything they have received.  Please look at my write up of LV Debt which opens in a new window.
  • CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS to the State Constitution are called Propositions and are written in a way to get them passed.  Like Bonds, Your first response should be to DENY any changes to the constitution..  For example, in odd years is the Texas Constitution amendments Election.  In recent years, I think the majority of the changes will be harmful in the long run.  AGAIN, your first response should be to DENY any changes to the constitution.. Very rarely do I vote for an Amendment change.  I will vote to change wording to clarify the intent of the law.

Gorena's Voting Recommendations

For the Mid-Term Election in November 2018.

  • Vote straight Ticket Republican!
  • The Choice is simple....  There are two parties: Democrat and Republican.  Democrats took God out of their party platform and said they are OK with people killing unborn babies.  The Republicans give credit to God and are not for aborting babies in their platform.  Easy decision since the  Republican platform does not go against my Core Values..
